You will have to go a long way to find such an unspoilt beauty spot, the
Algar Waterfalls located inland from Altea on the outskirts of Callosa
D'Ensarriá and is well signposted. The Algar falls are known as
a natural water park where you can swim in the clear water of the
natural spring water filled pools. When you arrive you will walk past a
number of bars and restaurants which have swimming pools as well as signs to a
small train museum and souvenir shops selling various products
including nisperos, there are huge amounts of nispero groves surrounding the falls and a
massive 22 million kilos of nisperos are harvested in the surrounding valleys.
The surrounding area is full of plant life such as reeds, bamboo and oleanders.
It will be difficult to drag yourself away from the pools, however do take
a walk to the "Arboretum" the garden of natural spices, here you will find
a fine example of typical
|
Mediterranean spice plants. Adjacent to the "Arboretum" is
an environmental museum with a collection of medicinal and aromatic herbs and oils
and perfumes, all of these products can be purchased.
Above the bathing area a picnic area has been prepared with seating,
tables, barbeques, toilets and showers.
